Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga surprised us with how much it wanted to tell a story on a phone. You lead a small band of travelers through a fading kingdom, and the writing has real personality instead of the usual fantasy filler. We found ourselves reading the optional dialogue, which almost never happens on mobile.
Combat is turn-based and portrait-friendly, so you can play one-handed. There's a satisfying rhythm to swapping party members and timing skills, and the difficulty curve stays fair without holding your hand. Grinding is optional rather than mandatory, which we appreciated.
Longer sessions did warm the phone a little, mostly during the flashier animated battles. Nothing alarming, but worth knowing before a long train ride. Overall it's one of the more generous mobile RPGs we've played this year.
What we liked
- Genuinely readable writing and characters
- Fair difficulty without forced grinding
- Comfortable one-handed portrait combat
