Hollow Lantern

★★★★★ 4.5 Editor rating

Hollow Lantern is the kind of game you play with headphones on late at night. You explore a moody island, light old beacons and slowly piece together what happened here. There's no combat pressure, just curiosity and a gentle sense of discovery.

Movement is a simple tap-to-move system that works fine, and the puzzles are logical rather than obtuse. We got stuck twice, but both times the answer was fair once we spotted it. The atmosphere does a lot of heavy lifting, and it earns its slow pace.

Because it's mostly quiet exploration, battery use was low and the phone stayed cool through long sessions. It's short, maybe five hours, but it doesn't overstay its welcome.
